Robotic Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of a women's uterus. There are different types of hysterectomy and you and your surgeon have decided on the da Vinici Robotic Hyesterectomy to treat your condition (usually pain and/or bleeding from the uterus).

Rapidly becoming the world-wide treatment choice for a range of conditions, the da Vinci  Surgical System sets a new standard for surgical outcomes. The system includes a robot and a surgeon console. Your surgeon sits at the console and views a magnified 3D image on a screen of the actual surgical site in your body (not a virtual image). The robot is outfitted with a high-resolution camera and four arms equipped with micro instruments. Your surgeon uses the micro instruments to access your anatomy through a series of small (keyhole) incisions. State-of-the-art robotics and computer technologies scale, filter and seamlessly translate your surgeon's hand movements (in real time) into precise micro-movements of the medical instruments. These instruments or ‘hands' can rotate 360 degrees and include a tremor control feature.  Although this is very "high-tech" sounding, the robotic hysterectomy offers you very real and specific benefits:

  • less risk of infection

  • decreased blood loss

  • significantly less pain

  • shorter hospital stays

  • faster recovery time

With a robotic-assisted hysterectomy, you can, most often, safely go home the same day and resume full activities within days or weeks. The surgery itself takes about 1-2 hours. it is important to keep a few things in mind as you prepare and  recover from your surgery:
