Signs of Marijuana Addiction

The more you regularly rely on something external to relax or help you feel better, the closer you move toward addiction. On the spectrum of addiction are marijuana abuse disorder and dependence on marijuana.  If you decide you are on the path to addiction, you can take action to change your behavior and find caring people to help you.

Check your addiction level

You may use marijuana to relax. But smoking marijuana can make you feel lazy, insecure, and distrustful. It can cause short-term memory loss and can damage your lungs. Read the following statements and check “yes” or “no.” Answering “yes” to 3 or more questions may be a signal that marijuana is taking over your life.




Are you using marijuana more and more often?

Do you think marijuana is not addictive?

Do you use marijuana to escape from problems or to relax?

Do you seek out people so you can smoke marijuana with them?

Do you do things under the influence of marijuana that you wouldn’t normally do?

Do you worry that you’ll run out of marijuana?

Do you think marijuana makes you more creative and social?

Does your throat ever feel raspy?

Are you finding it more difficult to remember things that recently happened?

Have you noticed you react more slowly to situations, even if they’re serious?

Do you feel tired more often?

Do you find you’re getting more colds, flus, or other infections?
