Ampicillin Injectable Solution 100 mg/mL

Uses

For treating bacterial infection.

Instructions

Carefully follow the instructions for preparing this medicine before injection.

Read and make sure you understand the instructions for measuring your dose and using the syringe before using this medicine.

The medicine needs to be mixed before being injected.

Follow package direction for diluting medicine with IV fluids or as instructed by your doctor or nurse.

Do not dilute the medicine until ready to use.

Always inspect the medicine before using.

The liquid should be clear and colorless.

Check the medicine before each use. If the liquid medicine has any particles in it, appears discolored, or if the vial appears damaged, do not use it.

Keep the medicine in its original container.

Before medicine is mixed, it may be stored at room temperature - below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C).

Protect medicine from light.

Take the medicine out of the refrigerator about 60 minutes before use to warm to room temperature.

If your medicine is stored in the refrigerator, take it out of the refrigerator about 1 hour before use to warm to room temperature.

Inject the medicine immediately after mixing.

Injecting cold drug may be uncomfortable.

Speak with your nurse or pharmacist about how long the medicine can be stored safely at room temperature or in the refrigerator before it needs to be discarded.

Never use any medicine that has expired.

Discard any remaining medicine after your dose is given.

Wash your hands before and after handling this medicine.

Space doses evenly to keep a steady amount of medicine in the body.

It is important that you keep taking each dose of this medicine on time even if you are feeling well.

If you forget to take a dose on time, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, do not take the missed dose. Return to your normal dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses of this medicine at one time.

Please tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the medicines you take. Include both prescription and over-the-counter medicines. Also tell them about any vitamins, herbal medicines, or anything else you take for your health.

If your symptoms do not improve or they worsen while on this medicine, contact your doctor.

Do not suddenly stop taking this medicine. Check with your doctor before stopping.

It is very important that you continue using this medicine for the full number of days that it is prescribed. Please do not stop the medicine even if you start to feel better after the first few days.

It is very important that you follow your doctor's instructions for all blood tests.

This medicine may interfere with some lab test results. Be sure to tell all your healthcare providers that you are taking this medicine.

It is very important that you keep all appointments for medical exams and tests while on this medicine.

Cautions

Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine. Symptoms of an allergic reaction can include trouble breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness.

Some patients taking this medicine have experienced serious side effects. Please speak with your doctor to understand the risks and benefits associated with this medicine.

Do not use the medication any more than instructed.

Please tell your doctor if you have moderate to severe diarrhea while on this medicine. Do not treat the diarrhea with over-the-counter diarrhea medicine.

Tell the doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Ask your pharmacist if this medicine can interact with any of your other medicines. Be sure to tell them about all the medicines you take.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any swelling of your hands, face, lips, eyes, throat or tongue.

Please tell all your doctors and dentists that you are on this medicine before they provide care.

Do not start or stop any other medicines without first speaking to your doctor or pharmacist.

Used needles and syringes should be thrown away properly in a medical waste container. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you need help.

Do not share this medicine with anyone who has not been prescribed this medicine.

Side Effects

The following is a list of some common side effects from this medicine. Please speak with your doctor about what you should do if you experience these or other side effects.

  • diarrhea
  • reaction at the area of the injection (pain, redness, swelling)
  • nausea
  • stomach upset or abdominal pain
  • yeast infection of mouth
  • vaginal itching or yeast infection
  • vomiting

Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you notice any of these more serious side effects:

  • severe, watery or bloody diarrhea
  • swelling of the face, mouth, tongue or throat
  • flu-like symptoms
  • kidney problems
  • symptoms of liver damage (such as yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, unusual tiredness or weakness; severe stomach or back pain)
  • skin irritation such as redness, itching, rash, or burning
  • seizures
  • sore throat
  • severe stomach or bowel pain
  • dark urine
  • severe or persistent vomiting

A few people may have an allergic reactions to this medicine. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical help quickly.
